Scout Cups

The day includes the annual shootout between the Northumberland and Durham Execs for the Pyman Skoot.

The Scout Cups fixture was hosted by Durham this year and held at Wearside Golf Club on Wednesday 11th July. 52 pairs played Greensomes stableford in a bid to win the coveted Scout Cups. With some quirky holes it makes for some interesting golf and in lovely weather with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and over looked by the Penshaw monument it was most enjoyable.

The overall competition was won by Serina Turnbull and Jenny Collier from South Shields with 38 points closely followed by Linda Grieve and Helen Morgan from Brancepeth Castle also with 38 points. In third place where Pat Pringle and Maureen McPhee from Gosforth with 37 points. A total of £637 was raised during the day which will be shared by Durham and Northumberland Scouts.

Alongside the Scout Cups there is an inter Exec competition where Northumberland and Durham take each other on for the coveted Pyman Skoot trophy. The Northumberland team of Carol Ramsay and Candy Brown, Janette Fellows and Gillian Davison with Patricia Luckey and Pat Mattinson took on Chris Pascall and Bobby Griffith, Ann Corbett and Marian Goodyear and Anita Maxwell and Anne Deboo respectively. The Durham Exec team was the worthy winners with a combined score of 91 points to Northumberland 75 points. The trophy was fittingly presented to Anne Dunn the Durham Captain by Elspeth Pyman who, with her husband, was the originator of the Scout Cups competition and donated the trophy.

Thank you to Wearside Golf Club for the use of their course and the fantastic hospitality shown to us all; and to the Durham Exec for organising the competition and managing the day.

Next year Northumberland will host it and perhaps the Skoot will find its way back to the north after its holiday in the south
